9157bafb44 tipc: Minor optimization of broadcast link transmit queue statistic
The two broadcast link statistics fields that are used to derive the
average length of that link's transmit queue are now updated only after
a successful attempt to send a broadcast message, since there is no need
to update these values when an unsuccessful send attempt leaves the
queue unchanged.

2b78f9a002 tipc: Handle broadcast attempt when no neighboring nodes exist
Adds a check to detect when an attempt is made to send a message
via the broadcast link and no neighboring nodes are currently available
to receive it. Rather than wasting effort passing the message to the
broadcast link and broadcast bearer, who will only throw it away,
TIPC now frees the message immediately and reports success (i.e. the
message has been delivered to all available destinations).

cd3decdfd1 tipc: Ensure broadcast link spinlock is held when updating node map
Fixes oversight that allowed broadcast link node map to be updated without
first taking the broadcast link spinlock that protects the map. As part
of this fix the node map has been incorporated into the broadcast link
structure to make the need for such protection more evident.

c47e9b9188 tipc: Eliminate dynamic allocation of broadcast link data structures
Creates global variables to hold the broadcast link's pseudo-bearer and
pseudo-link structures, rather than allocating them dynamically. There
is only a single instance of each structure, and changing over to static
allocation allows elimination of code to handle the cases where dynamic
allocation was unsuccessful.

The memset in the teardown code may look like they aren't used, but
the same teardown code is run when there is a non-fatal error at
init-time, so that stale data isn't present when the user fixes the
cause of the soft error.

97f1b625d1 tipc: Minor correction to TIPC module unloading
Modifies TIPC's module unloading logic to switch itself into "single
node" mode before starting to terminate networking support. This helps
to ensure that no operations that require TIPC to be in "networking"
mode can initiate once unloading starts.

d47ce2ece3 tipc: Eliminate useless memset operations in Ethernet media support
Gets rid of two pointless operations that zero out the array used to
record information about TIPC's Ethernet bearers. There is no need to
initialize the array on start up since it is a global variable that is
already zero'd out, and there is no need to zero it out on exit because
the array is never referenced again.

64b32f7e38 tipc: Do timely cleanup of disabled Ethernet bearer resources
Modifies Ethernet bearer disable logic to break the association between
the bearer and its device driver at the time the bearer is disabled,
rather than when the TIPC module is unloaded. This allows the array
entry used by the disabled bearer to be re-used if the same bearer (or
a different one) is subsequently enabled.

8c12118db7 tipc: Minor optimization to deactivation of Ethernet media suppot
Change TIPC's shutdown code to deactivate generic networking support
before terminating Ethernet media support. The deactivation of generic
networking support causes all existing bearers to be destroyed, meaning
the Ethernet media termination routine no longer has to bother marking
them as unavailable.

5c216e1d28 tipc: Allow run-time alteration of default link settings
Permits run-time alteration of default link settings on a per-media
and per-bearer basis, in addition to the existing per-link basis.
The following syntax can now be used:

    tipc-config -lt=<link-name|bearer-name|media-name>/<tolerance>
    tipc-config -lp=<link-name|bearer-name|media-name>/<priority>
    tipc-config -lw=<link-name|bearer-name|media-name>/<window>

Note that changes to the default settings for a given media type has
no effect on the default settings used by existing bearers. Similarly,
changes to default bearer settings has no effect on existing link
endpoints that utilize that interface.

Adds a check to ensure that TIPC ignores an incoming neighbor discovery
message that specifies an invalid media address as its source. The check
ensures that the source address is a valid, non-broadcast address that

3d749a6a26 tipc: Hide media-specific addressing details from generic bearer code
Reworks TIPC's media address data structure and associated processing
routines to transfer all media-specific details of address conversion
to the associated TIPC media adaptation code. TIPC's generic bearer code
now only needs to know which media type an address is associated with
and whether or not it is a broadcast address, and totally ignores the
"value" field that contains the actual media-specific addressing info.

These changes eliminate the need for a number of endianness conversion
operations and will make it easier for TIPC to support new media types
in the future.

4d163a326f tipc: Add new address conversion routines for Ethernet media
Enhances TIPC's Ethernet media support to provide 3 new address conversion
routines, which allow TIPC to interpret an address that is in string form
and to convert an address to and from the 20 byte format used in TIPC's
neighbor discovery messages.

These routines are pre-requisites to a follow on commit that hides all
media-specific addressing details from TIPC's generic bearer code.

6c34921010 tipc: Streamline media registration error checking
Simplifies error handling performed during media registration, since
TIPC no longer supports the dynamic addition of new media types that
are potentially error-prone. These simplifications include the following:

1) No longer check for premature registration of a new media type.
2) No longer check for negative link priority values (which was pointless
   since such values are unsigned, and could cause a compiler warning).
3) No longer generate a warning describing the exact cause of any
   registration failure (just warns that overall registration failed).

Streamlines the detection of an attempt to register a TIPC media structure
using an already registered name or type identifier. The revised logic now

2060a57744 tipc: Enable use by containers having their own network namespace
Permits a Linux container to use TIPC sockets even when it has its own
network namespace defined by removing the check that prohibits such use.
This makes it possible for users who wish to isolate their container
network traffic from normal network traffic to utilize TIPC.

We currently have two ways to account traffic in netfilter:

- iptables chain and rule counters:

While trying to display real-time accounting statistics, we require
to pool the kernel periodically to obtain this information. This is
OK if the number of flows is relatively low. However, in case that
the number of flows is huge, we can spend a considerable amount of
cycles to iterate over the list of flows that have been obtained.

Moreover, if we want to obtain the sum of the flow accounting results
that match some criteria, we have to iterate over the whole list of
existing flows, look for matchings and update the counters.

This patch adds the extended accounting infrastructure for
nfnetlink which aims to allow displaying real-time traffic accounting
without the need of complicated and resource-consuming implementation
in user-space. Basically, this new infrastructure allows you to create
accounting objects. One accounting object is composed of packet and
byte counters.

In order to manipulate create accounting objects, you require the
new libnetfilter_acct library. It contains several examples of use:

libnetfilter_acct/examples# ./nfacct-add http-traffic
libnetfilter_acct/examples# ./nfacct-get
http-traffic = { pkts = 000000000000,   bytes = 000000000000 };

Then, you can use one of this accounting objects in several iptables
rules using the new nfacct match (which comes in a follow-up patch):

 # iptables -I INPUT -p tcp --sport 80 -m nfacct --nfacct-name http-traffic
 # iptables -I OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -m nfacct --nfacct-name http-traffic

The idea is simple: if one packet matches the rule, the nfacct match
updates the counters.

bb52c7acf8 netem: dont call vfree() under spinlock and BH disabled
commit 6373a9a286 (netem: use vmalloc for distribution table) added a
regression, since vfree() is called while holding a spinlock and BH
being disabled.

Fix this by doing the pointers swap in critical section, and freeing
after spinlock release.

Also add __GFP_NOWARN to the kmalloc() try, since we fallback to
vmalloc().

0354b48f63 netfilter: xt_connbytes: handle negation correctly
"! --connbytes 23:42" should match if the packet/byte count is not in range.

As there is no explict "invert match" toggle in the match structure,
userspace swaps the from and to arguments
(i.e., as if "--connbytes 42:23" were given).

However, "what <= 23 && what >= 42" will always be false.

Change things so we use "||" in case "from" is larger than "to".

This change may look like it breaks backwards compatibility when "to" is 0.
However, older iptables binaries will refuse "connbytes 42:0",
and current releases treat it to mean "! --connbytes 0:42",
so we should be fine.

The packet size check originates from a time when UDP helpers could

d70308f78b netfilter: nat: remove module reference counting from NAT protocols
The only remaining user of NAT protocol module reference counting is NAT
ctnetlink support. Since this is a fairly short sequence of code, convert
over to use RCU and remove module reference counting.

Module unregistration is already protected by RCU using synchronize_rcu(),
so no further changes are necessary.

3d058d7bc2 netfilter: rework user-space expectation helper support
This partially reworks bc01befdcf
which added userspace expectation support.

This patch removes the nf_ct_userspace_expect_list since now we
force to use the new iptables CT target feature to add the helper
extension for conntracks that have attached expectations from
userspace.

A new version of the proof-of-concept code to implement userspace
helpers from userspace is available at:

This patch also modifies the CT target to allow to set the
conntrack's userspace helper status flags. This flag is used
to tell the conntrack system to explicitly allocate the helper
extension.

This helper extension is useful to link the userspace expectations
with the master conntrack that is being tracked from one userspace
helper.

This feature fixes a problem in the current approach of the
userspace helper support. Basically, if the master conntrack that
has got a userspace expectation vanishes, the expectations point to
one invalid memory address. Thus, triggering an oops in the
expectation deletion event path.

I decided not to add a new revision of the CT target because
I only needed to add a new flag for it. I'll document in this
issue in the iptables manpage. I have also changed the return
value from EINVAL to EOPNOTSUPP if one flag not supported is
specified. Thus, in the future adding new features that only
require a new flag can be added without a new revision.

There is no official code using this in userspace (apart from
the proof-of-concept) that uses this infrastructure but there
will be some by beginning 2012.

This patch replaces the magic number (1 << 30) with a symbolic bound.

This is caused by bridge netfilter special dst_entry (fake_rtable), a
special shared entry, where attaching an inetpeer makes no sense.

Problem is present since commit 87c48fa3b4 (ipv6: make fragment
identifications less predictable)

Introduce DST_NOPEER dst flag and make sure ipv6_select_ident() and

933393f58f percpu: Remove irqsafe_cpu_xxx variants
We simply say that regular this_cpu use must be safe regardless of
preemption and interrupt state.  That has no material change for x86
and s390 implementations of this_cpu operations.  However, arches that
do not provide their own implementation for this_cpu operations will
now get code generated that disables interrupts instead of preemption.

9f28a2fc0b ipv4: reintroduce route cache garbage collector
Commit 2c8cec5c10 (ipv4: Cache learned PMTU information in inetpeer)
removed IP route cache garbage collector a bit too soon, as this gc was
responsible for expired routes cleanup, releasing their neighbour
reference.

As pointed out by Robert Gladewitz, recent kernels can fill and exhaust
their neighbour cache.

Reintroduce the garbage collection, since we'll have to wait our
neighbour lookups become refcount-less to not depend on this stuff.

225d9b89c9 sch_sfq: rehash queues in perturb timer
A known Out Of Order (OOO) problem hurts SFQ when timer changes
perturbation value, since all new packets delivered to SFQ enqueue might
end on different slots than previous in-flight packets.

With round robin delivery, we can thus deliver packets in a different
order.

Since SFQ is limited to small amount of in-flight packets, we can rehash
packets so that this OOO problem is fixed.

This rehashing is performed only if internal flow classifier is in use.

We now store in skb->cb[] the "struct flow_keys" so that we dont call
skb_flow_dissect() again while rehashing.

aef6c928a9 mac80211: Keep skb->piority for relayed frames in AP mode
When mac80211 relays a frame from STA1 to STA2 in AP mode it will get
re-classified in the tx path. Unfortunately the frame protocol field
is always set to ETH_P_8023 while the classification only kicks in
for ETH_P_IP. Hence, a high priority frame from STA1 will be send to
STA2 as best effort.

Instead of running classification on the frame just use the same
priority as STA1 did. Do this by adding 256 to the skb->priority
to allow cfg80211_classify8021d to shortcut frame classification.

f2d64f6aa6 Bluetooth: Remove global mutex hci_task_lock
The hci_task_lock mutex (previously a lock) was supposed to protect the
register/unregister of HCI protocols against RX/TX tasks. This will not
be needed anymore because SCO and L2CAP will always be compiled.

Moreover, with the recent move of RX/TX to workqueues per device the
global hci_task_lock was causing starvation between different HCI
devices.

cd7816d149 net: have ipconfig not wait if no dev is available
previous commit 3fb72f1e6e
makes IP-Config wait for carrier on at least one network device.

Before waiting (predefined value 120s), check that at least one device
was successfully brought up. Otherwise (e.g. buggy bootloader
which does not set the MAC address) there is no point in waiting
for carrier.

a76c0adf60 sctp: Do not account for sizeof(struct sk_buff) in estimated rwnd
When checking whether a DATA chunk fits into the estimated rwnd a
full sizeof(struct sk_buff) is added to the needed chunk size. This
quickly exhausts the available rwnd space and leads to packets being
sent which are much below the PMTU limit. This can lead to much worse
performance.

The reason for this behaviour was to avoid putting too much memory
pressure on the receiver. The concept is not completely irational
because a Linux receiver does in fact clone an skb for each DATA chunk
delivered. However, Linux also reserves half the available socket
buffer space for data structures therefore usage of it is already
accounted for.

When proposing to change this the last time it was noted that this
behaviour was introduced to solve a performance issue caused by rwnd
overusage in combination with small DATA chunks.

Trying to reproduce this I found that with the sk_buff overhead removed,
the performance would improve significantly unless socket buffer limits
are increased.

The following numbers have been gathered using a patched iperf
supporting SCTP over a live 1 Gbit ethernet network. The -l option
was used to limit DATA chunk sizes. The numbers listed are based on
the average of 3 test runs each. Default values have been used for
sk_(r|w)mem.

eb93992207 module_param: make bool parameters really bool (net & drivers/net)
module_param(bool) used to counter-intuitively take an int.  In
fddd5201 (mid-2009) we allowed bool or int/unsigned int using a messy
trick.

It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option.  For this version
it'll simply give a warning, but it'll break next kernel version.

2692ba61a8 sctp: fix incorrect overflow check on autoclose
Commit 8ffd3208 voids the previous patches f6778aab and 810c0719 for
limiting the autoclose value.  If userspace passes in -1 on 32-bit
platform, the overflow check didn't work and autoclose would be set
to 0xffffffff.

This patch defines a max_autoclose (in seconds) for limiting the value
and exposes it through sysctl, with the following intentions.

1) Avoid overflowing autoclose * HZ.

2) Keep the default autoclose bound consistent across 32- and 64-bit
   platforms (INT_MAX / HZ in this patch).

3) Keep the autoclose value consistent between setsockopt() and
   getsockopt() calls.

9cef310fcd llc: llc_cmsg_rcv was getting called after sk_eat_skb.
Received non stream protocol packets were calling llc_cmsg_rcv that used a
skb after that skb was released by sk_eat_skb. This caused received STP

84381b4ed5 mac80211: split addba retries in time
Currently code allows three (HT_AGG_MAX_RETRIES) unanswered addba
requests. When this limit is reached aggregation is turned off for
given TID permanently. This doesn't seem right: three requests is
not that much, some 'blackout' can happen, but effect of it affects
whole connection indefinitely.
  This patch increases number of retries to 15. Also, when there have
been 3 or more retries it splits further retries apart by 15 seconds
instead of sending them in very short period of time.

79e654787c Bluetooth: Clear RFCOMM session timer when disconnecting last channel
When the last RFCOMM data channel is closed, a timer is normally set
up to disconnect the control channel at a later time.  If the control
channel disconnect command is sent with the timer pending, the timer
needs to be cancelled.

If the timer is not cancelled in this situation, the reference
counting logic for the RFCOMM session does not work correctly when the
remote device closes the L2CAP connection.  The session is freed at
the wrong time, leading to a kernel panic.

36e999a83a Bluetooth: Prevent uninitialized data access in L2CAP configuration
When configuring an ERTM or streaming mode connection, remote devices
are expected to send an RFC option in a successful config response.  A
misbehaving remote device might not send an RFC option, and the L2CAP
code should not access uninitialized data in this case.

65983fc7bb Bluetooth: Incoming ACL packets do not force active mode
Incoming sk_buffs always have bt_cb(skb)->force_active set to 0, so
it's misleading to use that value from the control block when calling
hci_conn_enter_active_mode() for incoming data. The destination socket
is not known in the HCI layer, so the force_active setting for each
socket isn't known either. Hard-coding the force_active parameter does
not change any behavior, but makes it obvious that incoming ACL data
never exits sniff mode.

7d78525dcf Bluetooth: Add timer for automatically disabling the service cache
We do not want the service cache to be enabled indefinitely after
mgmt_read_info is called. To solve this a timer is added which will
automatically disable the cache if mgmt_set_dev_class isn't called
within 5 seconds of calling mgmt_read_info.

Instead of having an explicit service cache command we can make the mgmt
API simpler by implicitly enabling the cache when mgmt_read_info is
called for the first time and disabling it when mgmt_set_dev_class is
called.

03a0019481 Bluetooth: invert locking order in connect path
This move some checking code that was in l2cap_sock_connect() to
l2cap_chan_connect(). Thus we can invert the lock calls, i.e., call
