[PATCH] Configurable NODES_SHIFT Current implementations define NODES_SHIFT in include/asm-xxx/numnodes.h for each arch. Its definition is sometimes configurable. Indeed, ia64 defines 5 NODES_SHIFT values in the current git tree. But it looks a bit messy. SGI-SN2(ia64) system requires 1024 nodes, and the number of nodes already has been changeable by config. Suitable node's number may be changed in the future even if it is other architecture. So, I wrote configurable node's number. This patch set defines just default value for each arch which needs multi nodes except ia64. But, it is easy to change to configurable if necessary. On ia64 the number of nodes can be already configured in generic ia64 and SN2 config. But, NODES_SHIFT is defined for DIG64 and HP'S machine too. So, I changed it so that all platforms can be configured via CONFIG_NODES_SHIFT. It would be simpler. Execute-In-Place allows the kernel to run from non-volatile storage
directly addressable by the CPU, such as NOR flash. This saves RAM
space since the text section of the kernel is not loaded from flash
to RAM. Read-write sections, such as the data section and stack,
are still copied to RAM. The XIP kernel is not compressed since
it has to run directly from flash, so it will take more space to
store it. The flash address used to link the kernel object files,

APM is a BIOS specification for saving power using several different
techniques. This is mostly useful for battery powered laptops with
APM compliant BIOSes. If you say Y here, the system time will be
reset after a RESUME operation, the /proc/apm device will provide
battery status information, and user-space programs will receive
notification of APM "events" (e.g. battery status change).
In order to use APM, you will need supporting software. For location
and more information, read <file:Documentation/pm.txt> and the
Battery Powered Linux mini-HOWTO, available from
<http://www.tldp.org/docs.html#howto>.
This driver does not spin down disk drives (see the hdparm(8)
manpage ("man 8 hdparm") for that), and it doesn't turn off
VESA-compliant "green" monitors.
Generally, if you don't have a battery in your machine, there isn't
much point in using this driver and you should say N. If you get
random kernel OOPSes or reboots that don't seem to be related to
anything, try disabling/enabling this option (or disabling/enabling
APM in your BIOS).

[PATCH] spi: simple SPI framework This is the core of a small SPI framework, implementing the model of a queue of messages which complete asynchronously (with thin synchronous wrappers on top). - It's still less than 2KB of ".text" (ARM). If there's got to be a mid-layer for something so simple, that's the right size budget. :) - The guts use board-specific SPI device tables to build the driver model tree. (Hardware probing is rarely an option.) - This version of Kconfig includes no drivers. At this writing there are two known master controller drivers (PXA/SSP, OMAP MicroWire) and three protocol drivers (CS8415a, ADS7846, DataFlash) with LKML mentions of other drivers in development. - No userspace API. There are several implementations to compare. Implement them like any other driver, and bind them with sysfs. The changes from last version posted to LKML (on 11-Nov-2005) are minor, and include: - One bugfix (removes a FIXME), with the visible effect of making device names be "spiB.C" where B is the bus number and C is the chipselect. - The "caller provides DMA mappings" mechanism now has kerneldoc, for DMA drivers that want to be fancy. - Hey, the framework init can be subsys_init. Even though board init logic fires earlier, at arch_init ... since the framework init is for driver support, and the board init support uses static init. - Various additional spec/doc clarifications based on discussions with other folk. It adds a brief "thank you" at the end, for folk who've helped nudge this framework into existence. As I've said before, I think that "protocol tweaking" is the main support that this driver framework will need to evolve.
