e8707b340f ACPICA: New: Validation for predefined ACPI methods/objects
Validates predefined ACPI objects that appear in the namespace,
at the time they are evaluated. The argument count and the type of
the returned object are validated. The purpose of this validation
is to detect problems with the BIOS-exposed predefined ACPI objects
before the results are returned to the ACPI-related drivers.

23d3e055be ACPICA: Remove obsolete debug levels (WARN and ERROR)
Removed ACPI_DB_WARN and ACPI_DB_ERROR. These debug levels were
made obsolete by the ACPI_WARNING and ACPI_ERROR/ACPI_EXCEPTION
interfaces.  Also added ACPI_DB_EVENTS to correspond with the
existing ACPI_LV_EVENTS.

the kernel subsystem and the utilities such as iASL compiler.

9db4fcd99f ACPICA: Fix wrong resource descriptor length for 64-bit build
The "minimal" descriptors such as EndTag are calculated as 12
bytes long, but the actual length in the internal descriptor is
16 because of the round-up to 8 on 64-bit build.

f5adfaa372 ACPI: Add "acpi.power_nocheck=1" to disable power state check in power transition
Maybe the incorrect power state is returned on the bogus bios, which
is different with the real power state. For example: the bios returns D0
state and the real power state is D3. OS expects to set the device to D0
state. In  such case if OS uses the power state returned by the BIOS and
checks the device power state very strictly in power transition, the device
can't be transited to the correct power state.

   So the boot option of "acpi.power_nocheck=1" is added to avoid checking
the device power in the course of device power transition.

27663c5855 ACPI: Change acpi_evaluate_integer to support 64-bit on 32-bit kernels
As of version 2.0, ACPI can return 64-bit integers.  The current
acpi_evaluate_integer only supports 64-bit integers on 64-bit platforms.
Change the argument to take a pointer to an acpi_integer so we support
64-bit integers on all platforms.

455c8793d2 ACPI: Enable EC device immediately after ACPI full initialization
when there is no ECDT table and no _INI object for EC device, it will be
enabled before scanning ACPI device. But it is too late after the following
the commit is merged.

   After the above commit is merged, OS will check whether MCFG area is
reserved in ACPI motherboard resources by calling the function of
acpi_get_devices when there exists MCFG table. In the acpi_get_devices the _STA
object will be evaluated to check the status of the ACPI device. On some broken
BIOS the MYEC object of EC device is initialized as one, which indicates that
EC operation region is already accessible before enabling EC device.So on these
broken BIOS the EC operation region will be accessed in course of evaluating
the _STA object before enabling EC device, which causes that OS will print the
following warning messages:
    >ACPI Error (evregion-0315): No handler for Region [EC__] (ffff88007f8145e8)
[EmbeddedControl] [20080609]
    >ACPI Error (exfldio-0290): Region EmbeddedControl(3) has no handler [20080321]
    >ACPI Error (psparse-0530): Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.SBRG.

Although the above warning message is harmless, it looks confusing.
So it is necessary to enable EC device as early as possible.Maybe it is
appropriate to enable it immediately after ACPI full initialization.

1253f7aabf dock: introduce .uevent for devices in dock, eg libata
dock's uevent reported itself, not ata. It might be difficult to find an
ata device just according to a dock. This patch introduces docking ops
for each device in a dock. when docking, dock driver can send device
specific uevent. This should help dock station too (not just bay)

19cd847ab2 ACPI: fix hotplug race
The hotplug notification handler and drivers' notification handler all
run in one workqueue.  Before hotplug removes an acpi device, the
device driver's notification handler is already be recorded to run just
after global notification handler.  After hotplug notification handler
runs, acpica will notice a NULL notification handler and crash.

So now we run run hotplug in another workqueue and wait
for all acpi notication handlers finish.
This was found in battery hotplug, but actually all
hotplug can be affected.

5fde244d39 PCI: disable ASPM per ACPI FADT setting
The ACPI FADT table includes an ASPM control bit. If the bit is set, do
not enable ASPM since it may indicate that the platform doesn't actually
support the feature.

71b58cbb0c ACPI: Enhance /sys/firmware/interrupts to allow enable/disable/clear from user-space
Allow users to enable/disable/clear a specific & valid GPE/Fixed Event
in user space.

This is useful for debugging, especially for some
interrupt storm issues.

All wakeup GPEs are disabled and they can not be enabled at runtime,
and we mark them as invalid.

All GPEs that don't have a _Lxx/_Exx method are marked as invalid.

All Fixed Events that don't have an event handler are marked as invalid
and they can't be enabled until an event handler is registered.

Fixes problem where the new method argument count validation mechanism
will enter an infinite loop when a GPE method is dispatched.
Problem fixed be removing the obsolete code that passes GPE block

e38e8a0743 Make GPE disable more robust
Implemented another change for the GPE disable. We now perform a
read-change-write of the enable register instead of simply writing out the
cached enable mask. This will prevent inadvertent enabling of GPEs if a rogue
GPE is received during initialization (before GPE handlers are installed.)

eb9d0fe40e PCI ACPI: Rework PCI handling of wake-up
* Introduce function acpi_pm_device_sleep_wake() for enabling and
  disabling the system wake-up capability of devices that are power
  manageable by ACPI.

* Introduce function acpi_bus_can_wakeup() allowing other (dependent)
  subsystems to check if ACPI is able to enable the system wake-up
  capability of given device.

* Introduce callback .sleep_wake() in struct pci_platform_pm_ops and
  for the ACPI PCI 'driver' make it use acpi_pm_device_sleep_wake().

* Introduce callback .can_wakeup() in struct pci_platform_pm_ops and
  for the ACPI 'driver' make it use acpi_bus_can_wakeup().

* Move the PME# handlig code out of pci_enable_wake() and split it
  into two functions, pci_pme_capable() and pci_pme_active(),
  allowing the caller to check if given device is capable of
  generating PME# from given power state and to enable/disable the
  device's PME# functionality, respectively.

* Modify pci_enable_wake() to use the new ACPI callbacks and the new
  PME#-related functions.

* Drop the generic .platform_enable_wakeup() callback that is not
  used any more.

* Introduce device_set_wakeup_capable() that will set the
  power.can_wakeup flag of given device.

* Rework PCI device PM initialization so that, if given device is
  capable of generating wake-up events, either natively through the
  PME# mechanism, or with the help of the platform, its
  power.can_wakeup flag is set and its power.should_wakeup flag is
  unset as appropriate.

* Make ACPI set the power.can_wakeup flag for devices found to be
  wake-up capable by it.

* Make the ACPI wake-up code enable/disable GPEs for devices that
  have the wakeup.flags.prepared flag set (which means that their
  wake-up power has been enabled).

77e766099e ACPI: Introduce acpi_device_sleep_wake function
The currect ACPI code attempts to execute _PSW at three different
places and in one of them only it tries to execute _DSW before _PSW,
which is inconsistent with the other two cases.

Move the execution of _DSW and _PSW into a separate function called
acpi_device_sleep_wake() and call it wherever appropriate instead of
executing _DSW and/or _PSW directly.

7a5bb99645 ACPICA: Fix to handle NULL package elements correctly
Fixed problem where NULL package elements were not returned to
the AcpiEvaluateObject interface correctly. Instead of returning a
NULL ACPI_OBJECT package element, the element was simply ignored,
potentially causing a buffer overflow and/or confusing the caller
who expected a fixed number of elements.

Fixed a problem where resource descriptor size optimization
could cause a problem when a _CRS resource template is passed
to a _SRS method. The _SRS resource template must use the same
descriptors (with the same size) as returned from _CRS. This
change affects the following resource descriptors: IRQ/IRQNoFlags

7823665ecc ACPICA: Fix for ACPI_HIDWORD macro
Fixed a regression introduced in version 20071114. The ACPI_HIDWORD
macro was inadvertently changed to return a 16-bit value instead of
a 32-bit value, truncating the upper Dword of a 64-bit value. This
macro is only used to display debug output, so no incorrect
calculations were made.

Designed and implemented new external interfaces to install and
remove handlers for ACPI table-related events. Current events that
are defined are LOAD and UNLOAD. These interfaces allow the host to
track ACPI tables as they are dynamically loaded and unloaded. See
AcpiInstallTableHandler and AcpiRemoveTableHandler.

The interpreter now evaluates operands in the order that they
appear (both in the

4fcb2fcd4d ACPI, cpuidle: Clarify C-state description in sysfs
Add a new sysfs entry under cpuidle states. desc - can be used by driver to
communicate to userspace any specific information about the state.
This helps in identifying the exact hardware C-states behind the ACPI C-state
definition.

Idea is to export this through powertop, which will help to map the C-state
reported by powertop to actual hardware C-state.

10270d4838 acpi: fix acpi_os_read_pci_configuration() misuse of raw_pci_read()
The raw_pci_read() interface (as the raw_pci_ops->read() before it)
unconditionally fills in a 32-bit integer return value regardless of the
size of the operation requested.

So claiming to take a "void *" is wrong, as is passing in a pointer to
just a byte variable.

Noticed by pageexec when enabling -fstack-protector (which needs other
patches too to actually work, but that's a separate issue).

df92e69599 ACPI: track opregion names to avoid driver resource conflicts.
Small ACPICA extension to be able to store the name of operation regions in osl.c later

In ACPI, AML can define accesses to IO ports and System Memory by Operation
Regions.  Those are not registered as done by PNPACPI using resource templates
(and _CRS/_SRS methods).

The IO ports and System Memory regions may get accessed by arbitrary AML code.
 When native drivers are accessing the same resources bad things can happen
(e.g.  a critical shutdown temperature of 3000 C every 2 months or so).

It is not really possible to register the operation regions via
request_resource, as they often overlap with pnp or other resources (e.g.
statically setup IO resources below 0x100).

This approach stores all Operation Region declarations (IO and System Memory
only) at ACPI table parse time.  It offers a similar functionality like
request_region and let drivers which are known to possibly use the same IO
ports and Memory which are also often used by ACPI (hwmon and i2c) check for
ACPI interference.

A boot parameter acpi_enforce_resources=strict/lax/no is provided, which
is default set to lax:
  - strict: let conflicting drivers fail to load with an error message
  - lax:    let conflicting driver work normal with a warning message
  - no:     no functional change at all
Depending on the feedback and the kind of interferences we see, this
should be set to strict at later time.

Goal of this patch set is:
  - Identify ACPI interferences in bug reports (very hard to reproduce
    and to identify)
  - Find BIOSes for that an ACPI driver should exist for specific HW
    instead of a native one.
  - stability in general

Provide acpi_check_{mem_}region.

Drivers can additionally check against possible ACPI interference by also
invoking this shortly before they call request_region.
If -EBUSY is returned, the driver must not load.
Use acpi_enforce_resources=strict/lax/no options to:
  - strict: let conflicting drivers fail to load with an error message
  - lax:    let conflicting driver work normal with a warning message
  - no:     no functional change at all
