iio: improve IIO_CONCENTRATION channel type description
[ Upstream commit df16c33a4028159d1ba8a7061c9fa950b58d1a61 ]
IIO_CONCENTRATION together with INFO_RAW specifier is used for reporting
raw concentrations of pollutants. Raw value should be meaningless
before being properly scaled. Because of that description shouldn't
mention raw value unit whatsoever.
Fix this by rephrasing existing description so it follows conventions
used throughout IIO ABI docs.

x86/speculation: Add Special Register Buffer Data Sampling (SRBDS) mitigation
commit 7e5b3c267d256822407a22fdce6afdf9cd13f9fb upstream SRBDS is an MDS-like speculative side channel that can leak bits from the random number generator (RNG) across cores and threads. New microcode serializes the processor access during the execution of RDRAND and RDSEED. This ensures that the shared buffer is overwritten before it is released for reuse. While it is present on all affected CPU models, the microcode mitigation is not needed on models that enumerate ARCH_CAPABILITIES[MDS_NO] in the cases where TSX is not supported or has been disabled with TSX_CTRL. The mitigation is activated by default on affected processors and it increases latency for RDRAND and RDSEED instructions. Among other effects this will reduce throughput from /dev/urandom. * Enable administrator to configure the mitigation off when desired using either mitigations=off or srbds=off. * Export vulnerability status via sysfs * Rename file-scoped macros to apply for non-whitelist table initializations. [ bp: Massage, - s/VULNBL_INTEL_STEPPING/VULNBL_INTEL_STEPPINGS/g, - do not read arch cap MSR a second time in tsx_fused_off() - just pass it in, - flip check in cpu_set_bug_bits() to save an indentation level, - reflow comments. jpoimboe: s/Mitigated/Mitigation/ in user-visible strings tglx: Dropped the fused off magic for now ] Signed-off-by: Mark Gross <mgross@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Borislav Petkov <bp@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Reviewed-by: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Pawan Gupta <pawan.kumar.gupta@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Josh Poimboeuf <jpoimboe@redhat.com> Tested-by: Neelima Krishnan <neelima.krishnan@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org> |

BACKPORT: nvmem: core: add NVMEM_SYSFS Kconfig
Many nvmem providers are not very keen on having default sysfs nvmem entry, as most of the usecases for them are inside kernel itself. And in some cases read/writes to some areas in nvmem are restricted and trapped at secure monitor level, so accessing them from userspace would result in board reboots. This patch adds new NVMEM_SYSFS Kconfig to make binary sysfs entry an optional one. This provision will give more flexibility to users. This patch also moves existing sysfs code to a new file so that its not compiled in when its not really required. f2fs: Add f2fs stats to sysfs
Currently f2fs stats are only available from /d/f2fs/status. This patch adds some of the f2fs stats to sysfs so that they are accessible even when debugfs is not mounted. The following sysfs nodes are added: -/sys/fs/f2fs/<disk>/free_segments -/sys/fs/f2fs/<disk>/cp_foreground_calls -/sys/fs/f2fs/<disk>/cp_background_calls -/sys/fs/f2fs/<disk>/gc_foreground_calls -/sys/fs/f2fs/<disk>/gc_background_calls -/sys/fs/f2fs/<disk>/moved_blocks_foreground -/sys/fs/f2fs/<disk>/moved_blocks_background -/sys/fs/f2fs/<disk>/avg_vblocks Signed-off-by: Hridya Valsaraju <hridya@google.com> [Jaegeuk Kim: allow STAT_FS without DEBUG_FS] Signed-off-by: Jaegeuk Kim <jaegeuk@kernel.org> |

f2fs: delete duplicate information on sysfs nodes
This patch merges the sysfs node documentation present in Documentation/filesystems/f2fs.txt and Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-fs-f2fs and deletes the duplicate information from Documentation/filesystems/f2fs.txt. This is to prevent having to update both files when a new sysfs node is added for f2fs. The patch also makes minor formatting changes to Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-fs-f2fs. f2fs: expose main_blkaddr in sysfs
Expose in /sys/fs/f2fs/<blockdev>/main_blkaddr the block address where the main area starts. This allows user mode programs to determine: - That pinned files that are made exclusively of fully allocated 2MB segments will never be unpinned by the file system. - Where the main area starts. This is required by programs that want to verify if a file is made exclusively of 2MB f2fs segments, the alignment boundary for segments starts at this address. Testing for 2MB alignment relative to the start of the device is incorrect, because for some filesystems main_blkaddr is not at a 2MB boundary relative to the start of the device. The entry will be used when validating reliable pinning file feature proposed by "f2fs: support aligned pinned file". x86/bugs: Add ITLB_MULTIHIT bug infrastructure
commit db4d30fbb71b47e4ecb11c4efa5d8aad4b03dfae upstream. Some processors may incur a machine check error possibly resulting in an unrecoverable CPU lockup when an instruction fetch encounters a TLB multi-hit in the instruction TLB. This can occur when the page size is changed along with either the physical address or cache type. The relevant erratum can be found here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=205195 There are other processors affected for which the erratum does not fully disclose the impact. This issue affects both bare-metal x86 page tables and EPT. It can be mitigated by either eliminating the use of large pages or by using careful TLB invalidations when changing the page size in the page tables. Just like Spectre, Meltdown, L1TF and MDS, a new bit has been allocated in MSR_IA32_ARCH_CAPABILITIES (PSCHANGE_MC_NO) and will be set on CPUs which are mitigated against this issue. f2fs: include charset encoding information in the superblock
Add charset encoding to f2fs to support casefolding. It is modeled after the same feature introduced in commit c83ad55eaa91 ("ext4: include charset encoding information in the superblock") Currently this is not compatible with encryption, similar to the current ext4 imlpementation. This will change in the future. >From the ext4 patch: """ The s_encoding field stores a magic number indicating the encoding format and version used globally by file and directory names in the filesystem. The s_encoding_flags defines policies for using the charset encoding, like how to handle invalid sequences. The magic number is mapped to the exact charset table, but the mapping is specific to ext4. Since we don't have any commitment to support old encodings, the only encoding I am supporting right now is utf8-12.1.0. The current implementation prevents the user from enabling encoding and per-directory encryption on the same filesystem at the same time. The incompatibility between these features lies in how we do efficient directory searches when we cannot be sure the encryption of the user provided fname will match the actual hash stored in the disk without decrypting every directory entry, because of normalization cases. My quickest solution is to simply block the concurrent use of these features for now, and enable it later, once we have a better solution. f2fs: Add option to limit required GC for checkpoint=disable
This extends the checkpoint option to allow checkpoint=disable:%u[%] This allows you to specify what how much of the disk you are willing to lose access to while mounting with checkpoint=disable. If the amount lost would be higher, the mount will return -EAGAIN. This can be given as a percent of total space, or in blocks. Currently, we need to run garbage collection until the amount of holes is smaller than the OVP space. With the new option, f2fs can mark space as unusable up front instead of requiring garbage collection until the number of holes is small enough. ANDROID: cpufreq: times: add /proc/uid_concurrent_{active,policy}_time
In order to model the energy used by the cpu, we need to expose cpu time information to userspace. We can use this information to blame uids for the energy they are using. This patch adds 2 files: /proc/uid_concurrent_active_time outputs the time each uid spent running with 1 to num_possible_cpus online and not idle. For instance, if 4 cores are online and active for 50ms and the uid is running on one of the cores, the uid should be blamed for 1/4 of the base energy used by the cpu when 1 or more cores is active. /proc/uid_concurrent_policy_time outputs the time each uid spent running on group of cpu's with the same policy with 1 to num_related_cpus online and not idle. For instance, if 2 cores that are a part of the same policy are online and active for 50ms and the uid is running on one of the cores, the uid should be blamed for 1/2 of the energy that is used everytime one or more cpus in the same policy is active. This patch is based on commit c89e69136fec ("ANDROID: cpufreq: uid_concurrent_active_time") and commit 989212536842 ("ANDROID: cpufreq: uid_concurrent_policy_time") in the android-msm-wahoo-4.4 kernel by Marissa Wall. So, this patch introduces timeout-based work on it. By default, let me give 5 seconds for discard. Reviewed-by: Chao Yu <yuchao0@huawei.com> Signed-off-by: Jaegeuk Kim <jaegeuk@kernel.org> |

UPSTREAM: zram: idle writeback fixes and cleanup
This patch includes some fixes and cleanup for idle-page writeback. 1. writeback_limit interface Now writeback_limit interface is rather conusing. For example, once writeback limit budget is exausted, admin can see 0 from /sys/block/zramX/writeback_limit which is same semantic with disable writeback_limit at this moment. IOW, admin cannot tell that zero came from disable writeback limit or exausted writeback limit. To make the interface clear, let's sepatate enable of writeback limit to another knob - /sys/block/zram0/writeback_limit_enable * before: while true : # to re-enable writeback limit once previous one is used up echo 0 > /sys/block/zram0/writeback_limit echo $((200<<20)) > /sys/block/zram0/writeback_limit .. .. # used up the writeback limit budget * new # To enable writeback limit, from the beginning, admin should # enable it. echo $((200<<20)) > /sys/block/zram0/writeback_limit echo 1 > /sys/block/zram/0/writeback_limit_enable while true : echo $((200<<20)) > /sys/block/zram0/writeback_limit .. .. # used up the writeback limit budget It's much strightforward. 2. fix condition check idle/huge writeback mode check The mode in writeback_store is not bit opeartion any more so no need to use bit operations. Furthermore, current condition check is broken in that it does writeback every pages regardless of huge/idle. 3. clean up idle_store No need to use goto. UPSTREAM: zram: writeback throttle
If there are lots of write IO with flash device, it could have a wearout problem of storage. To overcome the problem, admin needs to design write limitation to guarantee flash health for entire product life. This patch creates a new knob "writeback_limit" for zram. writeback_limit's default value is 0 so that it doesn't limit any writeback. If admin want to measure writeback count in a certain period, he could know it via /sys/block/zram0/bd_stat's 3rd column. If admin want to limit writeback as per-day 400M, he could do it like below. MB_SHIFT=20 4K_SHIFT=12 echo $((400<<MB_SHIFT>>4K_SHIFT)) > \ /sys/block/zram0/writeback_limit. If admin want to allow further write again, he could do it like below echo 0 > /sys/block/zram0/writeback_limit If admin want to see remaining writeback budget, cat /sys/block/zram0/writeback_limit The writeback_limit count will reset whenever you reset zram (e.g., system reboot, echo 1 > /sys/block/zramX/reset) so keeping how many of writeback happened until you reset the zram to allocate extra writeback budget in next setting is user's job. UPSTREAM: zram: add bd_stat statistics

UPSTREAM: zram: support idle/huge page writeback
Add a new feature "zram idle/huge page writeback". In the zram-swap use case, zram usually has many idle/huge swap pages. It's pointless to keep them in memory (ie, zram). To solve this problem, this feature introduces idle/huge page writeback to the backing device so the goal is to save more memory space on embedded systems. Normal sequence to use idle/huge page writeback feature is as follows, while (1) { # mark allocated zram slot to idle echo all > /sys/block/zram0/idle # leave system working for several hours # Unless there is no access for some blocks on zram, # they are still IDLE marked pages. echo "idle" > /sys/block/zram0/writeback or/and echo "huge" > /sys/block/zram0/writeback # write the IDLE or/and huge marked slot into backing device # and free the memory. } Per the discussion at https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20181122065926.GG3441@jagdpanzerIV/T/#u, This patch removes direct incommpressibe page writeback feature (d2afd25114f4 ("zram: write incompressible pages to backing device")). Below concerns from Sergey: == &< == "IDLE writeback" is superior to "incompressible writeback". "incompressible writeback" is completely unpredictable and uncontrollable; it depens on data patterns and compression algorithms. While "IDLE writeback" is predictable. I even suspect, that, *ideally*, we can remove "incompressible writeback". "IDLE pages" is a super set which also includes "incompressible" pages. So, technically, we still can do "incompressible writeback" from "IDLE writeback" path; but a much more reasonable one, based on a page idling period. I understand that you want to keep "direct incompressible writeback" around. ZRAM is especially popular on devices which do suffer from flash wearout, so I can see "incompressible writeback" path becoming a dead code, long term. == &< == Below concerns from Minchan: == &< == My concern is if we enable CONFIG_ZRAM_WRITEBACK in this implementation, both hugepage/idlepage writeck will turn on. However someuser want to enable only idlepage writeback so we need to introduce turn on/off knob for hugepage or new CONFIG_ZRAM_IDLEPAGE_WRITEBACK for those usecase. I don't want to make it complicated *if possible*. Long term, I imagine we need to make VM aware of new swap hierarchy a little bit different with as-is. For example, first high priority swap can return -EIO or -ENOCOMP, swap try to fallback to next lower priority swap device. With that, hugepage writeback will work tranparently. So we could regard it as regression because incompressible pages doesn't go to backing storage automatically. Instead, user should do it via "echo huge" > /sys/block/zram/writeback" manually. == &< == Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/20181127055429.251614-6-minchan@kernel.org Signed-off-by: Minchan Kim <minchan@kernel.org> Reviewed-by: Joey Pabalinas <joeypabalinas@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Sergey Senozhatsky <sergey.senozhatsky@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> (cherry picked from commit a939888ec38bf1f33e4a903056677e92a4844244) Bug: 117683045 Change-Id: I82afe541fdb60b24cde74f42de4d6b3dd6d8266c Signed-off-by: Srinivas Paladugu <srnvs@google.com> |

UPSTREAM: zram: introduce ZRAM_IDLE flag
To support idle page writeback with upcoming patches, this patch introduces a new ZRAM_IDLE flag. Userspace can mark zram slots as "idle" via "echo all > /sys/block/zramX/idle" which marks every allocated zram slot as ZRAM_IDLE. User could see it by /sys/kernel/debug/zram/zram0/block_state. 300 75.033841 ...i 301 63.806904 s..i 302 63.806919 ..hi Once there is IO for the slot, the mark will be disappeared. 300 75.033841 ... 301 63.806904 s..i 302 63.806919 ..hi Therefore, 300th block is idle zpage. With this feature, user can how many zram has idle pages which are waste of memory.
