fdf036507f KVM: s390: host STP toleration for VMs
If the host has STP enabled, the TOD of the host will be changed during
synchronization phases. These are performed during a stop_machine() call.

As the guest TOD is based on the host TOD, we have to make sure that:
- no VCPU is in the SIE (implicitly guaranteed via stop_machine())
- manual guest TOD calculations are not affected

"Epoch" is the guest TOD clock delta to the host TOD clock. We have to
adjust that value during the STP synchronization and make sure that code
that accesses the epoch won't get interrupted in between (via disabling
preemption).

f341b8dff9 s390/vtime: limit MT scaling value updates
The MT scaling values are updated on each calll to do_account_vtime.
This function is called for each HZ interrupt and for each context
switch. Context switch can happen often, the STCCTM instruction
on this path is noticeable. Limit the updates to once per jiffy.

5a7ff75a0c s390/syscalls: ignore syscalls reachable via sys_socketcall
x86 will wire up all syscalls reachable via sys_socketcall. Therefore this
will yield a lot of warnings from the checksyscalls.sh scripts on s390
where we currently don't wire them up directly.

This might change in the future, but this needs to be done carefully in
order to not break anything.

For the time being just tell the checksyscalls script to ignore the missing
syscalls on s390.

c29a7baf09 s390/numa: add emulation support
NUMA emulation (aka fake NUMA) distributes the available memory to nodes
without using real topology information about the physical memory of the
machine.

Splitting the system memory into nodes replicates the memory management
structures for each node. Particularly each node has its own "mm locks"
and its own "kswapd" task.

For large systems, under certain conditions, this results in improved
system performance and/or latency based on reduced pressure on the mm
locks and the kswapd tasks.

NUMA emulation distributes CPUs to nodes while respecting the original
machine topology information. This is done by trying to avoid to separate
CPUs which reside on the same book or even on the same MC. Because the
current Linux scheduler code requires a stable cpu to node mapping, cores
are pinned to nodes when the first CPU thread is set online.

This patch is based on the initial implementation from Philipp Hachtmann.

e8054b654b s390/numa: add topology tree infrastructure
NUMA emulation needs proper means to mangle the book/mc/core topology
of the machine. The topology tree (toptree) consistently maintains cpu
masks for the root, each node, and all leaves of the tree while the
user may use the toptree functions to rearrange the tree in various
ways.

11276d5306 locking/static_keys: Add a new static_key interface
There are various problems and short-comings with the current
static_key interface:

 - static_key_{true,false}() read like a branch depending on the key
value, instead of the actual likely/unlikely branch depending on
   init value.

 - static_key_{true,false}() are, as stated above, tied to the
   static_key init values STATIC_KEY_INIT_{TRUE,FALSE}.

 - we're limited to the 2 (out of 4) possible options that compile to
a default NOP because that's what our arch_static_branch() assembly
   emits.

So provide a new static_key interface:

  DEFINE_STATIC_KEY_TRUE(name);
  DEFINE_STATIC_KEY_FALSE(name);

Which define a key of different types with an initial true/false
value.

Then allow:

   static_branch_likely()
   static_branch_unlikely()

to take a key of either type and emit the right instruction for the
case.

This means adding a second arch_static_branch_jump() assembly helper
which emits a JMP per default.

In order to determine the right instruction for the right state,
encode the branch type in the LSB of jump_entry::key.

This is the final step in removing the naming confusion that has led to
a stream of avoidable bugs such as:

  a833581e37 ("x86, perf: Fix static_key bug in load_mm_cr4()")

... but it also allows new static key combinations that will give us
performance enhancements in the subsequent patches.

76b235c6bc jump_label: Rename JUMP_LABEL_{EN,DIS}ABLE to JUMP_LABEL_{JMP,NOP}
Since we've already stepped away from ENABLE is a JMP and DISABLE is a
NOP with the branch_default bits, and are going to make it even worse,
rename it to make it all clearer.

This way we don't mix multiple levels of logic attributes, but have a
plain 'physical' name for what the current instruction patching status
of a jump label is.

This is a first step in removing the naming confusion that has led to
a stream of avoidable bugs such as:

7b36f92934 bpf: provide helper that indicates eBPF was migrated
During recent discussions we had with Michael, we found that it would
be useful to have an indicator that tells the JIT that an eBPF program
had been migrated from classic instructions into eBPF instructions, as
only in that case A and X need to be cleared in the prologue. Such eBPF
programs do not set a particular type, but all have BPF_PROG_TYPE_UNSPEC.
Thus, introduce a small helper for cde66c2d88 ("s390/bpf: Only clear

586b7ccdb7 KVM: s390: Fix hang VCPU hang/loop regression
commit 785dbef407 ("KVM: s390: optimize round trip time in request
handling") introduced a regression. This regression was seen with
CPU hotplug in the guest and switching between 1 or 2 CPUs. This will
set/reset the IBS control via synced request.

Whenever we make a synced request, we first set the vcpu->requests
bit and then block the vcpu. The handler, on the other hand, unblocks
itself, processes vcpu->requests (by clearing them) and unblocks itself
once again.

Now, if the requester sleeps between setting of vcpu->requests and
blocking, the handler will clear the vcpu->requests bit and try to
unblock itself (although no bit is set). When the requester wakes up,
it blocks the VCPU and we have a blocked VCPU without requests.

Solution is to always unset the block bit.

9db7f2b818 s390/bpf: recache skb->data/hlen for skb_vlan_push/pop
Allow eBPF programs attached to TC qdiscs call skb_vlan_push/pop
via helper functions. These functions may change skb->data/hlen.
This data is cached by s390 JIT to improve performance of ld_abs/ld_ind

In case of usage of skb_vlan_push/pop, in the prologue we store

0df30abcd6 KVM: s390: filter space-switch events when PER is enforced
When guest debugging is active, space-switch events might be enforced
by PER. While the PER events are correctly filtered out,
space-switch-events could be forwarded to the guest, although from a
guest point of view, they should not have been reported.

Therefore we have to filter out space-switch events being concurrently
reported with a PER event, if the PER event got filtered out. To do so,
we theoretically have to know which instruction was responsible for the
event. As the applicable instructions modify the PSW address, the
address space set in the PSW and even the address space in cr1, we
can't figure out the instruction that way.

For this reason, we have to rely on the information about the old and
new address space, in order to guess the responsible instruction type
and do appropriate checks for space-switch events.

d0fc41071a s390/kvm: integrate HANDLE_SIE_INTERCEPT into cleanup_critical
Currently there are two mechanisms to deal with cleanup work due to
interrupts. The HANDLE_SIE_INTERCEPT macro is used to undo the changes
required to enter SIE in sie64a. If the SIE instruction causes a program
check, or an asynchronous interrupt is received the HANDLE_SIE_INTERCEPT
code forwards the program execution to sie_exit.

All the other critical sections in entry.S are handled by the code in
cleanup_critical that is called by the SWITCH_ASYNC macro.

dcd2a9aaa0 s390/kvm: fix interrupt race with HANDLE_SIE_INTERCEPT
The HANDLE_SIE_INTERCEPT macro is used in the interrupt handlers
and the program check handler to undo a few changes done by sie64a.
Among them are guest vs host LPP, the gmap ASCE vs kernel ASCE and
the bit that indicates that SIE is currently running on the CPU.

There is a race of a voluntary SIE exit vs asynchronous interrupts.
If the CPU completed the SIE instruction and the TM instruction of
the LPP macro at the time it receives an interrupt, the interrupt
handler will run while the LPP, the ASCE and the SIE bit are still
set up for guest execution. This might result in wrong sampling data,
but it will not cause data corruption or lockups.

The critical section in sie64a needs to be enlarged to include all
instructions that undo the changes required for guest execution.

9977e886cb s390/kernel: lazy restore fpu registers
Improve the save and restore behavior of FPU register contents to use the
vector extension within the kernel.

The kernel does not use floating-point or vector registers and, therefore,
saving and restoring the FPU register contents are performed for handling
signals or switching processes only. To prepare for using vector
instructions and vector registers within the kernel, enhance the save
behavior and implement a lazy restore at return to user space from a
system call or interrupt.

To implement the lazy restore, the save_fpu_regs() sets a CPU information
flag, CIF_FPU, to indicate that the FPU registers must be restored.
Saving and setting CIF_FPU is performed in an atomic fashion to be
interrupt-safe. When the kernel wants to use the vector extension or
wants to change the FPU register state for a task during signal handling,
the save_fpu_regs() must be called first. The CIF_FPU flag is also set at
process switch. At return to user space, the FPU state is restored. In
particular, the FPU state includes the floating-point or vector register
contents, as well as, vector-enablement and floating-point control. The
FPU state restore and clearing CIF_FPU is also performed in an atomic
fashion.

For KVM, the restore of the FPU register state is performed when restoring
the general-purpose guest registers before the SIE instructions is started.
Because the path towards the SIE instruction is interruptible, the CIF_FPU
flag must be checked again right before going into SIE. If set, the guest
registers must be reloaded again by re-entering the outer SIE loop. This
is the same behavior as if the SIE critical section is interrupted.

4e10df9a60 bpf: introduce bpf_skb_vlan_push/pop() helpers
Allow eBPF programs attached to TC qdiscs call skb_vlan_push/pop via
helper functions. These functions may change skb->data/hlen which are
cached by some JITs to improve performance of ld_abs/ld_ind instructions.
Therefore JITs need to recognize bpf_skb_vlan_push/pop() calls,
re-compute header len and re-cache skb->data/hlen back into cpu registers.
Note, skb->data/hlen are not directly accessible from the programs,
so any changes to skb->data done either by these helpers or by other
TC actions are safe.

eBPF JIT supported by three architectures:
- arm64 JIT is using bpf_load_pointer() without caching, so it's ok as-is.
- x64 JIT re-caches skb->data/hlen unconditionally after vlan_push/pop calls
(experiments showed that conditional re-caching is slower).
- s390 JIT falls back to interpreter for now when bpf_skb_vlan_push() is present
in the program (re-caching is tbd).

These helpers allow more scalable handling of vlan from the programs.
Instead of creating thousands of vlan netdevs on top of eth0 and attaching
TC+ingress+bpf to all of them, the program can be attached to eth0 directly
and manipulate vlans as necessary.

As suggested by Geert Uytterhoeven, this could be cleaned through the use
of a generic header file included via each per architecture
asm/include/Kbuild file.

The PowerPC architecture is not impacted here since this architecture has
to defined the arch_remap MM hook.

7f9be77555 s390/hugetlb: add hugepages_supported define
On s390 we only can enable hugepages if the underlying hardware/hypervisor
also does support this. Common code now would assume this to be
signaled by setting HPAGE_SHIFT to 0. But on s390, where we only
support one hugepage size, there is a link between HPAGE_SHIFT and
pageblock_order.

So instead of setting HPAGE_SHIFT to 0, we will implement the check for
the hardware capability.

41318bfe2a revert "s390/mm: make hugepages_supported a boot time decision"
Heiko noticed that the current check for hugepage support on s390 is a
little bit too harsh as systems which do not support will crash.

The reason is that pageblock_order can now get negative when we set
HPAGE_SHIFT to 0. To avoid all this and to avoid opening another can of
worms with enabling HUGETLB_PAGE_SIZE_VARIABLE I think it would be best
to simply allow architectures to define their own hugepages_supported().

cad49cfc44 s390/nmi: fix vector register corruption
If a machine check happens, the machine has the vector facility installed
and the extended save area exists, the cpu will save vector register
contents into the extended save area. This is regardless of control
register 0 contents, which enables and disables the vector facility during
runtime.

On each machine check we should validate the vector registers. The current
code however tries to validate the registers only if the running task is
using vector registers in user space.

However even the current code is broken and causes vector register
corruption on machine checks, if user space uses them:
the prefix area contains a pointer (absolute address) to the machine check
extended save area. In order to save some space the save area was put into
an unused area of the second prefix page.
When validating vector register contents the code uses the absolute address
of the extended save area, which is wrong. Due to prefixing the vector
instructions will then access contents using absolute addresses instead
of real addresses, where the machine stored the contents.

If the above would work there is still the problem that register validition
would only happen if user space uses vector registers. If kernel space uses
them also, this may also lead to vector register content corruption:
if the kernel makes use of vector instructions, but the current running
user space context does not, the machine check handler will validate
floating point registers instead of vector registers.
Given the fact that writing to a floating point register may change the
upper halve of the corresponding vector register, we also experience vector
register corruption in this case.

Fix all of these issues, and always validate vector registers on each
machine check, if the machine has the vector facility installed and the
extended save area is defined.

The sfpc inline assembly within execve_tail() may incorrectly set bits

f9c87a6f46 s390/sclp: clear upper register halves in _sclp_print_early
If the kernel is compiled with gcc 5.1 and the XZ compression option
the decompress_kernel function calls _sclp_print_early in 64-bit mode
while the content of the upper register half of %r6 is non-zero.
This causes a specification exception on the servc instruction in

The _sclp_print_early function saves and restores the upper registers

0cbee99269 Merge branch 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace
Pull user namespace updates from Eric Biederman:
"Long ago and far away when user namespaces where young it was realized
that allowing fresh mounts of proc and sysfs with only user namespace
permissions could violate the basic rule that only root gets to decide
if proc or sysfs should be mounted at all.

Some hacks were put in place to reduce the worst of the damage could
be done, and the common sense rule was adopted that fresh mounts of
proc and sysfs should allow no more than bind mounts of proc and
sysfs. Unfortunately that rule has not been fully enforced.

There are two kinds of gaps in that enforcement. Only filesystems
mounted on empty directories of proc and sysfs should be ignored but
the test for empty directories was insufficient. So in my tree
directories on proc, sysctl and sysfs that will always be empty are
created specially. Every other technique is imperfect as an ordinary
directory can have entries added even after a readdir returns and
shows that the directory is empty. Special creation of directories
for mount points makes the code in the kernel a smidge clearer about
it's purpose. I asked container developers from the various container
projects to help test this and no holes were found in the set of mount
points on proc and sysfs that are created specially.

This set of changes also starts enforcing the mount flags of fresh
mounts of proc and sysfs are consistent with the existing mount of
proc and sysfs. I expected this to be the boring part of the work but
unfortunately unprivileged userspace winds up mounting fresh copies of
proc and sysfs with noexec and nosuid clear when root set those flags
on the previous mount of proc and sysfs. So for now only the atime,
read-only and nodev attributes which userspace happens to keep
consistent are enforced. Dealing with the noexec and nosuid
  attributes remains for another time.

This set of changes also addresses an issue with how open file
descriptors from /proc/<pid>/ns/* are displayed. Recently readlink of
/proc/<pid>/fd has been triggering a WARN_ON that has not been
meaningful since it was added (as all of the code in the kernel was
converted) and is not now actively wrong.

There is also a short list of issues that have not been fixed yet that
  I will mention briefly.

It is possible to rename a directory from below to above a bind mount.
At which point any directory pointers below the renamed directory can
be walked up to the root directory of the filesystem. With user
namespaces enabled a bind mount of the bind mount can be created
allowing the user to pick a directory whose children they can rename
to outside of the bind mount. This is challenging to fix and doubly
so because all obvious solutions must touch code that is in the
  performance part of pathname resolution.

As mentioned above there is also a question of how to ensure that
developers by accident or with purpose do not introduce exectuable
files on sysfs and proc and in doing so introduce security regressions
in the current userspace that will not be immediately obvious and as
such are likely to require breaking userspace in painful ways once
  they are recognized"

3033f14ab7 clone: support passing tls argument via C rather than pt_regs magic
clone has some of the quirkiest syscall handling in the kernel, with a
pile of special cases, historical curiosities, and architecture-specific
calling conventions. In particular, clone with CLONE_SETTLS accepts a
parameter "tls" that the C entry point completely ignores and some
assembly entry points overwrite; instead, the low-level arch-specific
code pulls the tls parameter out of the arch-specific register captured
as part of pt_regs on entry to the kernel. That's a massive hack, and
it makes the arch-specific code only work when called via the specific
existing syscall entry points; because of this hack, any new clone-like
system call would have to accept an identical tls argument in exactly
the same arch-specific position, rather than providing a unified system
call entry point across architectures.

The first patch allows architectures to handle the tls argument via
normal C parameter passing, if they opt in by selecting
HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS. The second patch makes 32-bit and 64-bit x86 opt
into this.

These two patches came out of the clone4 series, which isn't ready for
this merge window, but these first two cleanup patches were entirely
uncontroversial and have acks. I'd like to go ahead and submit these
two so that other architectures can begin building on top of this and
opting into HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS. However, I'm also happy to wait and
send these through the next merge window (along with v3 of clone4) if
anyone would prefer that.

This patch (of 2):

clone with CLONE_SETTLS accepts an argument to set the thread-local
storage area for the new thread. sys_clone declares an int argument
tls_val in the appropriate point in the argument list (based on the
various CLONE_BACKWARDS variants), but doesn't actually use or pass along
that argument. Instead, sys_clone calls do_fork, which calls
copy_process, which calls the arch-specific copy_thread, and copy_thread
pulls the corresponding syscall argument out of the pt_regs captured at
kernel entry (knowing what argument of clone that architecture passes tls
in).

Apart from being awful and inscrutable, that also only works because only
one code path into copy_thread can pass the CLONE_SETTLS flag, and that
code path comes from sys_clone with its architecture-specific
argument-passing order. This prevents introducing a new version of the
clone system call without propagating the same architecture-specific
position of the tls argument.

However, there's no reason to pull the argument out of pt_regs when
sys_clone could just pass it down via C function call arguments.

Introduce a new CONFIG_HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS for architectures to opt into,
and a new copy_thread_tls that accepts the tls parameter as an additional
unsigned long (syscall-argument-sized) argument. Change sys_clone's tls
argument to an unsigned long (which does not change the ABI), and pass
that down to copy_thread_tls.

Architectures that don't opt into copy_thread_tls will continue to ignore
the C argument to sys_clone in favor of the pt_regs captured at kernel
entry, and thus will be unable to introduce new versions of the clone
syscall.

bea41197ea s390/mm: make hugepages_supported a boot time decision
There is a potential bug with KVM and hugetlbfs if the hardware does not
support hugepages (EDAT1). We fix this by making EDAT1 a hard requirement
for hugepages and therefore removing and simplifying code.

As s390, with the sw-emulated hugepages, was the only user of
arch_prepare/release_hugepage I also removed theses calls from common and
other architecture code.

This patch (of 5):

By dropping support for hugepages on machines which do not have the
hardware feature EDAT1, we fix a potential s390 KVM bug.

The bug would happen if a guest is backed by hugetlbfs (not supported
currently), but does not get pagetables with PGSTE. This would lead to
random memory overwrites.

1592a8e456 s390/kdump: fix nosmt kernel parameter
It turned out that SIGP set-multi-threading can only be done once.
Therefore switching to a different MT level after switching to
sclp.mtid_prev in the dump case fails.

As a symptom specifying the "nosmt" parameter currently fails for
the kdump kernel and the kernel starts with multi-threading enabled.

So fix this and issue diag 308 subcode 1 call after collecting the
CPU states for the dump. Also enhance the diag308_reset() function to
be usable also with enabled lowcore protection and prefix register != 0.
After the reset it is possible to switch the MT level again. We have
to do the reset very early in order not to kill the already initialized
console. Therefore instead of kmalloc() the corresponding memblock
functions have to be used. To avoid copying the sclp cpu code into
sclp_early, we now use the simple sigp loop method for CPU detection.

d08d94306e s390/smp: cleanup core vs. cpu in the SCLP interface
The SCLP interface to query, configure and deconfigure CPUs actually
operates on cores. For a machine without the multi-threading faciltiy
a CPU and a core are equivalent but starting with System z13 a core
can have multiple hardware threads, also referred to as logical CPUs.

To avoid confusion replace the word 'cpu' with 'core' in the SCLP
interface. Also replace MAX_CPU_ADDRESS with SCLP_MAX_CORES.
The core-id is an 8-bit field, the maximum thread id is in the range
0-31. The theoretical limit for the CPU address is therefore 8191.

fc6daaf931 mm/memblock: add extra "flags" to memblock to allow selection of memory based on attribute
Some high end Intel Xeon systems report uncorrectable memory errors as a
recoverable machine check. Linux has included code for some time to
process these and just signal the affected processes (or even recover
completely if the error was in a read only page that can be replaced by
reading from disk).

But we have no recovery path for errors encountered during kernel code
execution. Except for some very specific cases were are unlikely to ever
be able to recover.

Enter memory mirroring. Actually 3rd generation of memory mirroing.

Gen1: All memory is mirrored
Pro: No s/w enabling - h/w just gets good data from other side of the
	     mirror
Con: Halves effective memory capacity available to OS/applications

Gen2: Partial memory mirror - just mirror memory begind some memory controllers
Pro: Keep more of the capacity
Con: Nightmare to enable. Have to choose between allocating from
mirrored memory for safety vs. NUMA local memory for performance

Gen3: Address range partial memory mirror - some mirror on each memory
      controller
Pro: Can tune the amount of mirror and keep NUMA performance
Con: I have to write memory management code to implement

The current plan is just to use mirrored memory for kernel allocations.
This has been broken into two phases:

1) This patch series - find the mirrored memory, use it for boot time
   allocations

2) Wade into mm/page_alloc.c and define a ZONE_MIRROR to pick up the
unused mirrored memory from mm/memblock.c and only give it out to
select kernel allocations (this is still being scoped because
   page_alloc.c is scary).

This patch (of 3):

Add extra "flags" to memblock to allow selection of memory based on
attribute. No functional changes

2ae416b142 mm: new mm hook framework
CRIU is recreating the process memory layout by remapping the checkpointee
memory area on top of the current process (criu). This includes remapping
the vDSO to the place it has at checkpoint time.

However some architectures like powerpc are keeping a reference to the
vDSO base address to build the signal return stack frame by calling the
vDSO sigreturn service. So once the vDSO has been moved, this reference
is no more valid and the signal frame built later are not usable.

This patch serie is introducing a new mm hook framework, and a new
arch_remap hook which is called when mremap is done and the mm lock still
hold. The next patch is adding the vDSO remap and unmap tracking to the
powerpc architecture.

This patch (of 3):

This patch introduces a new set of header file to manage mm hooks:
- per architecture empty header file (arch/x/include/asm/mm-arch-hooks.h)
- a generic header (include/linux/mm-arch-hooks.h)

The architecture which need to overwrite a hook as to redefine it in its
header file, while architecture which doesn't need have nothing to do.

The default hooks are defined in the generic header and are used in the
case the architecture is not defining it.

In a next step, mm hooks defined in include/asm-generic/mm_hooks.h should
be moved here.

f2ae45edbc KVM: s390: clear floating interrupt bitmap and parameters
commit 6d3da24141 ("KVM: s390: deliver floating interrupts in order
of priority") introduced a regression for the reset handling.

We don't clear the bitmap of pending floating interrupts
and interrupt parameters. This could result in stale interrupts
even after a reset. Let's fix this by clearing the pending bitmap
and the parameters for service and machine check interrupts.

"A rather largish update for everything time and timer related:

   - Cache footprint optimizations for both hrtimers and timer wheel

   - Lower the NOHZ impact on systems which have NOHZ or timer migration

   - Optimize run time overhead of hrtimer interrupt by making the clock
     offset updates smarter

   - hrtimer cleanups and removal of restrictions to tackle some
     problems in sched/perf

   - Some more leap second tweaks

   - Another round of changes addressing the 2038 problem

   - First step to change the internals of clock event devices by
     introducing the necessary infrastructure

   - Allow constant folding for usecs/msecs_to_jiffies()

The hrtimer changes contain updates to sched, perf and x86 as they
depend on them plus changes all over the tree to cleanup API changes

Linus Torvalds
d70b3ef54c Merge branch 'x86-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull x86 core updates from Ingo Molnar:
"There were so many changes in the x86/asm, x86/apic and x86/mm topics
in this cycle that the topical separation of -tip broke down somewhat -
so the result is a more traditional architecture pull request,
  collected into the 'x86/core' topic.

The topics were still maintained separately as far as possible, so
bisectability and conceptual separation should still be pretty good -
but there were a handful of merge points to avoid excessive
dependencies (and conflicts) that would have been poorly tested in the
  end.

The next cycle will hopefully be much more quiet (or at least will
  have fewer dependencies).

The main changes in this cycle were:

   * x86/apic changes, with related IRQ core changes: (Jiang Liu, Thomas
     Gleixner)

     - This is the second and most intrusive part of changes to the x86
interrupt handling - full conversion to hierarchical interrupt
       domains:

          [IOAPIC domain] -----
                                 |
[MSI domain] --------[Remapping domain] ----- [ Vector domain ]
                                 | (optional) |
          [HPET MSI domain] ----- |
                                                         |
          [DMAR domain] -----------------------------
                                                         |
          [Legacy domain] -----------------------------

This now reflects the actual hardware and allowed us to distangle
the domain specific code from the underlying parent domain, which
can be optional in the case of interrupt remapping. It's a clear
separation of functionality and removes quite some duct tape
constructs which plugged the remap code between ioapic/msi/hpet
       and the vector management.

     - Intel IOMMU IRQ remapping enhancements, to allow direct interrupt
       injection into guests (Feng Wu)

   * x86/asm changes:

     - Tons of cleanups and small speedups, micro-optimizations. This
is in preparation to move a good chunk of the low level entry
code from assembly to C code (Denys Vlasenko, Andy Lutomirski,
       Brian Gerst)

     - Moved all system entry related code to a new home under
       arch/x86/entry/ (Ingo Molnar)

     - Removal of the fragile and ugly CFI dwarf debuginfo annotations.
Conversion to C will reintroduce many of them - but meanwhile
they are only getting in the way, and the upstream kernel does
not rely on them (Ingo Molnar)

     - NOP handling refinements. (Borislav Petkov)

   * x86/mm changes:

     - Big PAT and MTRR rework: making the code more robust and
preparing to phase out exposing direct MTRR interfaces to drivers -
in favor of using PAT driven interfaces (Toshi Kani, Luis R
       Rodriguez, Borislav Petkov)

     - New ioremap_wt()/set_memory_wt() interfaces to support
Write-Through cached memory mappings. This is especially
important for good performance on NVDIMM hardware (Toshi Kani)

   * x86/ras changes:

     - Add support for deferred errors on AMD (Aravind Gopalakrishnan)

This is an important RAS feature which adds hardware support for
poisoned data. That means roughly that the hardware marks data
which it has detected as corrupted but wasn't able to correct, as
poisoned data and raises an APIC interrupt to signal that in the
form of a deferred error. It is the OS's responsibility then to
take proper recovery action and thus prolonge system lifetime as
       far as possible.

     - Add support for Intel "Local MCE"s: upcoming CPUs will support
CPU-local MCE interrupts, as opposed to the traditional system-
wide broadcasted MCE interrupts (Ashok Raj)

     - Misc cleanups (Borislav Petkov)

   * x86/platform changes:

     - Intel Atom SoC updates

... and lots of other cleanups, fixlets and other changes - see the
shortlog and the Git log for details"

6651ee070b s390/bpf: implement bpf_tail_call() helper
bpf_tail_call() arguments:

 - ctx......: Context pointer
 - jmp_table: One of BPF_MAP_TYPE_PROG_ARRAY maps used as the jump table

In this implementation s390x JIT does stack unwinding and jumps into the

556269c138 arch/*/io.h: Add ioremap_wt() to all architectures
Add ioremap_wt() to all arch-specific asm/io.h headers which
define ioremap_wc() locally. These headers do not include
<asm-generic/iomap.h>. Some of them include <asm-generic/io.h>,
but ioremap_wt() is defined for consistency since they define
all ioremap_xxx locally.

In all architectures without Write-Through support, ioremap_wt()
is defined indentical to ioremap_nocache().

frv and m68k already have ioremap_writethrough(). On those we
add ioremap_wt() indetical to ioremap_writethrough() and defines
ARCH_HAS_IOREMAP_WT in both architectures.

The ioremap_wt() interface is exported to drivers.

bbac1c9488 s390/bpf: fix stack allocation
On s390x we have to provide 160 bytes stack space before we can call
the next function. From the 160 bytes that we got from the previous
function we only use 11 * 8 bytes and have 160 - 11 * 8 bytes left.
Currently for BPF we allocate additional 160 - 11 * 8 bytes for the
next function. This is wrong because then the next function only gets:

 (160 - 11 * 8) + (160 - 11 * 8) = 2 * 72 = 144 bytes

Fix this and allocate enough memory for the next function.

61a6df54b6 KVM: s390: call exit_sie() directly on vcpu block/request
Thinking about it, I can't find a real use case where we want
to block a VCPU and not kick it out of SIE. (except if we want
to do the same in batch for multiple VCPUs - but that's a micro
optimization)

So let's simply perform the exit_sie() calls directly when setting
the other magic block bits in the SIE.

Otherwise e.g. kvm_s390_set_tod_low() still has other VCPUs running
after that call, working with a wrong epoch.

f36f3f2846 KVM: add "new" argument to kvm_arch_commit_memory_region
This lets the function access the new memory slot without going through
kvm_memslots and id_to_memslot. It will simplify the code when more
than one address space will be supported.

Unfortunately, the "const"ness of the new argument must be casted
away in two places. Fixing KVM to accept const struct kvm_memory_slot
pointers would require modifications in pretty much all architectures,
and is left for later.

70ffdb9393 mm/fault, arch: Use pagefault_disable() to check for disabled pagefaults in the handler
Introduce faulthandler_disabled() and use it to check for irq context and
disabled pagefaults (via pagefault_disable()) in the pagefault handlers.

Please note that we keep the in_atomic() checks in place - to detect
whether in irq context (in which case preemption is always properly
disabled).

In contrast, preempt_disable() should never be used to disable pagefaults.
With !CONFIG_PREEMPT_COUNT, preempt_disable() doesn't modify the preempt
counter, and therefore the result of in_atomic() differs.
We validate that condition by using might_fault() checks when calling
might_sleep().

Therefore, add a comment to faulthandler_disabled(), describing why this
is needed.

faulthandler_disabled() and pagefault_disable() are defined in
linux/uaccess.h, so let's properly add that include to all relevant files.

This patch is based on a patch from Thomas Gleixner.

This patch factors out the search for a floating irq destination
VCPU as well as the kicking of the found VCPU. The search is optimized
in the following ways:

1. stopped VCPUs can't take any floating interrupts, so try to find an
operating one. We have to take care of the special case where all
VCPUs are stopped and we don't have any valid destination.

2. use online_vcpus, not KVM_MAX_VCPU. This speeds up the search
especially if KVM_MAX_VCPU is increased one day. As these VCPU
objects are initialized prior to increasing online_vcpus, we can be
   sure that they exist.

exit_sie_sync is used to kick CPUs out of SIE and prevent reentering at

set the IBS stuff in a way that guarantees that after this function

The request must be set before we block the CPUs to avoid races. Let's
make this implicit by adding the request into a new function
kvm_s390_sync_requests that replaces exit_sie_sync and split out
s390_vcpu_block and s390_vcpu_unblock, that can be used to keep

Commit ea5f496925 ("KVM: s390: only one external call may be pending

interpretation facility installed.
The injection of an external call will now always fail with -EBUSY
(if none is already pending).

This leads to the following symptoms:
- An external call will be injected but with the wrong "src cpu id",
as this id will not be remembered.
- The target vcpu will not be woken up, therefore the guest will hang if
it cannot deal with unexpected failures of the SIGP EXTERNAL CALL
  instruction.
- If an external call is already pending, -EBUSY will not be reported.

0097d12e50 KVM: provide irq_unsafe kvm_guest_{enter|exit}
Several kvm architectures disable interrupts before kvm_guest_enter.
kvm_guest_enter then uses local_irq_save/restore to disable interrupts

kvm_guest_{enter|exit} that assume being called locked.
kvm_guest_enter now disables interrupts for the full function and
thus we can remove the check for preemptible.

This patch then adopts s390/kvm to use local_irq_disable/enable calls
which are slighty cheaper that local_irq_save/restore and call these
new functions.

7e01b5acd8 kexec: allocate the kexec control page with KEXEC_CONTROL_MEMORY_GFP
Introduce KEXEC_CONTROL_MEMORY_GFP to allow the architecture code

page. The loop in kimage_alloc_normal_control_pages allocates pages
with GFP_KERNEL until a page is found that happens to have an

with a large memory size but a small KEXEC_CONTROL_MEMORY_LIMIT
the loop will keep allocating memory until the oom killer steps in.

2813893f8b kernel: conditionally support non-root users, groups and capabilities
There are a lot of embedded systems that run most or all of their
functionality in init, running as root:root. For these systems,
supporting multiple users is not necessary.

This patch adds a new symbol, CONFIG_MULTIUSER, that makes support for
non-root users, non-root groups, and capabilities optional. It is enabled
under CONFIG_EXPERT menu.

When this symbol is not defined, UID and GID are zero in any possible case
and processes always have all capabilities.

The following syscalls are compiled out: setuid, setregid, setgid,
setreuid, setresuid, getresuid, setresgid, getresgid, setgroups,
getgroups, setfsuid, setfsgid, capget, capset.

Also, groups.c is compiled out completely.

In kernel/capability.c, capable function was moved in order to avoid
adding two ifdef blocks.

This change saves about 25 KB on a defconfig build. The most minimal
kernels have total text sizes in the high hundreds of kB rather than
low MB. (The 25k goes down a bit with allnoconfig, but not that much.

The kernel was booted in Qemu. All the common functionalities work.
Adding users/groups is not possible, failing with -ENOSYS.

Bloat-o-meter output:
add/remove: 7/87 grow/shrink: 19/397 up/down: 1675/-26325 (-24650)

12) Split out new connection request sockets so that they can be

go first to the listener then to the request socks hashed

d1fd836dcf mm: split ET_DYN ASLR from mmap ASLR
This fixes the "offset2lib" weakness in ASLR for arm, arm64, mips,
powerpc, and x86. The problem is that if there is a leak of ASLR from
the executable (ET_DYN), it means a leak of shared library offset as
well (mmap), and vice versa. Further details and a PoC of this attack
is available here:

  http://cybersecurity.upv.es/attacks/offset2lib/offset2lib.html

With this patch, a PIE linked executable (ET_DYN) has its own ASLR
region:

The change is to add a call the newly created arch_mmap_rnd() into the
ELF loader for handling ET_DYN ASLR in a separate region from mmap ASLR,
as was already done on s390. Removes CONFIG_BINFMT_ELF_RANDOMIZE_PIE,
which is no longer needed.

c6f5b001e6 s390: redefine randomize_et_dyn for ELF_ET_DYN_BASE
In preparation for moving ET_DYN randomization into the ELF loader (which
requires a static ELF_ET_DYN_BASE), this redefines s390's existing ET_DYN
randomization in a call to arch_mmap_rnd(). This refactoring results in
the same ET_DYN randomization on s390.

2b68f6caea mm: expose arch_mmap_rnd when available
When an architecture fully supports randomizing the ELF load location,
a per-arch mmap_rnd() function is used to find a randomized mmap base.
In preparation for randomizing the location of ET_DYN binaries
separately from mmap, this renames and exports these functions as
arch_mmap_rnd(). Additionally introduces CONFIG_ARCH_HAS_ELF_RANDOMIZE
for describing this feature on architectures that support it
(which is a superset of ARCH_BINFMT_ELF_RANDOMIZE_PIE, since s390
already supports a separated ET_DYN ASLR from mmap ASLR without the
ARCH_BINFMT_ELF_RANDOMIZE_PIE logic).

eeee78cf77 Some clean ups and small fixes, but the biggest change is the addition
of the TRACE_DEFINE_ENUM() macro that can be used by tracepoints.

Tracepoints have helper functions for the TP_printk() called
__print_symbolic() and __print_flags() that lets a numeric number be
displayed as a a human comprehensible text. What is placed in the
TP_printk() is also shown in the tracepoint format file such that
user space tools like perf and trace-cmd can parse the binary data
and express the values too. Unfortunately, the way the TRACE_EVENT()
macro works, anything placed in the TP_printk() will be shown pretty
much exactly as is. The problem arises when enums are used. That's
because unlike macros, enums will not be changed into their values
by the C pre-processor. Thus, the enum string is exported to the
format file, and this makes it useless for user space tools.

The TRACE_DEFINE_ENUM() solves this by converting the enum strings
in the TP_printk() format into their number, and that is what is
shown to user space. For example, the tracepoint tlb_flush currently
has this in its format file:

      __print_symbolic(REC->reason,
         { TLB_FLUSH_ON_TASK_SWITCH, "flush on task switch" },
         { TLB_REMOTE_SHOOTDOWN, "remote shootdown" },
         { TLB_LOCAL_SHOOTDOWN, "local shootdown" },
         { TLB_LOCAL_MM_SHOOTDOWN, "local mm shootdown" })

 After adding:

      TRACE_DEFINE_ENUM(TLB_FLUSH_ON_TASK_SWITCH);
      TRACE_DEFINE_ENUM(TLB_REMOTE_SHOOTDOWN);
      TRACE_DEFINE_ENUM(TLB_LOCAL_SHOOTDOWN);
      TRACE_DEFINE_ENUM(TLB_LOCAL_MM_SHOOTDOWN);

      __print_symbolic(REC->reason,
         { 0, "flush on task switch" },
         { 1, "remote shootdown" },

9003601310 The most interesting bit here is irqfd/ioeventfd support for ARM and ARM64.
ARM/ARM64: fixes for live migration, irqfd and ioeventfd support (enabling
 vhost, too), page aging

s390: interrupt handling rework, allowing to inject all local interrupts
via new ioctl and to get/set the full local irq state for migration
and introspection. New ioctls to access memory by virtual address,
and to get/set the guest storage keys. SIMD support.

MIPS: FPU and MIPS SIMD Architecture (MSA) support. Includes some patches
 from Ralf Baechle's MIPS tree.

x86: bugfixes (notably for pvclock, the others are small) and cleanups.
Another small latency improvement for the TSC deadline timer.
