14a8d47d4e tty: of_serial: add support for the DesignWare 8250
Support the DesignWare 8250 by a new compatible string and registering
the DesignWare helpers. If the registration of the helpers fails, then
continue as a normal 8250 as we may still get some useful debug out.

a4297b5db0 ALSA: hda - Rewrite ALC269 laptop-amic,dmic,&co quirks with fixups
Similarly like ALC662 asus-mode* models, rewrite the laptop-amic and
dmic models with the static pin-config tables.

Now we can get rid of all alc269_quirks.c.

86028619b9 docs/sysfs: Specify ABI documentation requirements
Although it is expected nowadays that every new sysfs attribute is
documented under Documentation/ABI, this is not yet mentioned in the
kernel documentation. This patch adds a note in the sysfs
documentation about that requirement.

72246da40f usb: Introduce DesignWare USB3 DRD Driver
The DesignWare USB3 is a highly
configurable IP Core which can be
instantiated as Dual-Role Device (DRD),
Peripheral Only and Host Only (XHCI)
configurations.

Several other parameters can be configured
like amount of FIFO space, amount of TX and
RX endpoints, amount of Host Interrupters,
etc.

The current driver has been validated with
a virtual model of version 1.73a of that core
and with an FPGA burned with version 1.83a
of the DRD core. We have support for PCIe
bus, which is used on FPGA prototyping, and
for the OMAP5, more adaptation (or glue)
layers can be easily added and the driver
is half prepared to handle any possible
configuration the HW engineer has chosen
considering we have the information on
one of the GHWPARAMS registers to do
runtime checking of certain features.

More runtime checks can, and should, be added
in order to make this driver even more flexible
with regards to number of endpoints, FIFO sizes,
transfer types, etc.

While this supports only the device side, for
now, we will add support for Host side (xHCI -
see the updated series Sebastian has sent [1])
and OTG after we have it all stabilized.

This patch (as1482) adds a macro for testing whether or not a

e22a539824 lguest: allow booting guest with CONFIG_RELOCATABLE=y
The CONFIG_RELOCATABLE code tries to align the unpack destination to
the value of 'kernel_alignment' in the setup_hdr. If that's 0, it
tries to unpack to address 0, which in fact causes the gunzip code
to call 'error("Out of memory while allocating output buffer")'.

The bootloader (ie. the lguest Launcher in this case) should be doing
setting this field; the normal bzImage is 16M, we can use the same.

311aab73d2 PM / Runtime: Add might_sleep() to runtime PM functions
Some of the entry points to pm runtime are not safe to
call in atomic context unless pm_runtime_irq_safe() has
been called. Inspecting the code, it is not immediately
obvious that the functions sleep at all, as they run
inside a spin_lock_irqsave, but under some conditions
they can drop the lock and turn on irqs.

If a driver incorrectly calls the pm_runtime apis, it can
cause sleeping and irq processing when it expects to stay
in atomic context.

Add might_sleep_if to the majority of the __pm_runtime_* entry points
to enforce correct usage.

Add pm_runtime_put_sync_autosuspend to the list of
functions that can be called in atomic context.

3ae36655b9 x86-64: Rework vsyscall emulation and add vsyscall= parameter
There are three choices:

vsyscall=native: Vsyscalls are native code that issues the
corresponding syscalls.

vsyscall=emulate (default): Vsyscalls are emulated by instruction
fault traps, tested in the bad_area path. The actual contents of
the vsyscall page is the same as the vsyscall=native case except
that it's marked NX. This way programs that make assumptions about
what the code in the page does will not be confused when they read
that code.

vsyscall=none: Trying to execute a vsyscall will segfault.

02b26774af PM / Runtime: Allow _put_sync() from interrupts-disabled context
Currently the use of pm_runtime_put_sync() is not safe from
interrupts-disabled context because rpm_idle() will release the
spinlock and enable interrupts for the idle callbacks. This enables
interrupts during a time where interrupts were expected to be
disabled, and can have strange side effects on drivers that expected
interrupts to be disabled.

This is not a bug since the documentation clearly states that only
_put_sync_suspend() is safe in IRQ-safe mode.

However, pm_runtime_put_sync() could be made safe when in IRQ-safe
mode by releasing the spinlock but not re-enabling interrupts, which
is what this patch aims to do.

Problem was found when using some buggy drivers that set
pm_runtime_irq_safe() and used _put_sync() in interrupts-disabled
context.

dfb09f9b7a x86, amd: Avoid cache aliasing penalties on AMD family 15h
This patch provides performance tuning for the "Bulldozer" CPU. With its
shared instruction cache there is a chance of generating an excessive
number of cache cross-invalidates when running specific workloads on the
cores of a compute module.

This excessive amount of cross-invalidations can be observed if cache
lines backed by shared physical memory alias in bits [14:12] of their
virtual addresses, as those bits are used for the index generation.

This patch addresses the issue by clearing all the bits in the [14:12]
slice of the file mapping's virtual address at generation time, thus
forcing those bits the same for all mappings of a single shared library
across processes and, in doing so, avoids instruction cache aliases.

It also adds the command line option "align_va_addr=(32|64|on|off)" with
which virtual address alignment can be enabled for 32-bit or 64-bit x86
individually, or both, or be completely disabled.

This change leaves virtual region address allocation on other families
and/or vendors unaffected.

4931402a9d cfq-iosched: Add documentation about idling
There are always questions about why CFQ is idling on various conditions.
Recent ones is Christoph asking again why to idle on REQ_NOIDLE. His
assertion is that XFS is relying more and more on workqueues and is
concerned that CFQ idling on IO from every workqueue will impact
XFS badly.

So he suggested that I add some more documentation about CFQ idling
and that can provide more clarity on the topic and also gives an
opprotunity to poke a hole in theory and lead to improvements.

So here is my attempt at that. Any comments are welcome.

Add new parameter to disable rounding of buffer/period sizes to

dd48c085c1 fault-injection: add ability to export fault_attr in arbitrary directory
init_fault_attr_dentries() is used to export fault_attr via debugfs.
But it can only export it in debugfs root directory.

Per Forlin is working on mmc_fail_request which adds support to inject
data errors after a completed host transfer in MMC subsystem.

The fault_attr for mmc_fail_request should be defined per mmc host and
export it in debugfs directory per mmc host like
/sys/kernel/debug/mmc0/mmc_fail_request.

init_fault_attr_dentries() doesn't help for mmc_fail_request.  So this
introduces fault_create_debugfs_attr() which is able to create a
directory in the arbitrary directory and replace
init_fault_attr_dentries().

ab92402af0 thermal: hide CONFIG_THERMAL_HWMON
It's about time to revert 16d7523973 ("thermal: Create
CONFIG_THERMAL_HWMON=n").  Anybody running a kernel >= 2.6.40 would also
be running a recent enough version of lm-sensors.

Actually having CONFIG_THERMAL_HWMON is pretty convenient so instead of
dropping it, we keep it but hide it.

772ae5f54d dm crypt: optionally support discard requests
Add optional parameter field to dmcrypt table and support
"allow_discards" option.

Discard requests bypass crypt queue processing. Bio is simple remapped
to underlying device.

Note that discard will be never enabled by default because of security
consequences. It is up to the administrator to enable it for encrypted
devices.

(Note that userspace cryptsetup does not understand new optional
parameters yet. Support for this will come later. Until then, you
should use 'dmsetup' to enable and disable this.)

b12d437b73 dm raid: support metadata devices
Add the ability to parse and use metadata devices to dm-raid. Although
not strictly required, without the metadata devices, many features of
RAID are unavailable. They are used to store a superblock and bitmap.

The role, or position in the array, of each device must be recorded in
its superblock. This is to help with fault handling, array reshaping,
and sanity checks. RAID 4/5/6 devices must be loaded in a specific order:
in this way, the 'array_position' field helps validate the correctness
of the mapping when it is loaded. It can be used during reshaping to
identify which devices are added/removed. Fault handling is impossible
without this field. For example, when a device fails it is recorded in
the superblock. If this is a RAID1 device and the offending device is
removed from the array, there must be a way during subsequent array
assembly to determine that the failed device was the one removed. This
is done by correlating the 'array_position' field and the bit-field
variable 'failed_devices'.

78d88fc012 watchdog: WatchDog Timer Driver Core - Add ioctl call
Add support for extra ioctl calls by adding a
ioctl watchdog operation. This operation will be
called before we do our own handling of ioctl
commands. This way we can override the internal
ioctl command handling and we can also add
extra ioctl commands. The ioctl watchdog operation
should return the appropriate error codes or
-ENOIOCTLCMD if the ioctl command should be handled
through the internal ioctl handling of the framework.

The WatchDog Timer Driver Core is a framework
that contains the common code for all watchdog-driver's.
It also introduces a watchdog device structure and the

This is the introduction of this framework. This part
supports the minimal watchdog userspace API (or with
other words: the functionality to use /dev/watchdog's
open, release and write functionality as defined in
the simplest watchdog API). Extra functionality will
follow in the next set of patches.

3ba7222ac9 arm/versatile: Add device tree support
For testing the dt work, define a dt-enabled versatile platform.

This patch adds a new versatile platform for when using the device
tree. Add platform and amba devices are discovered and registered by
parsing the device tree. Clocks and initial io mappings are still
configured statically.

This patch still depends on some static platform_data for a few devices
which is passed via the auxdata structure to of_platform_populate(),
but it is a viable starting point until the drivers can get all
configuration data out of the device tree.

4266129964 [media] DocBook: Move all media docbook stuff into its own directory
This patch addresses several issues pointed by Randy Dunlap
<rdunlap@xenotime.net> at changeset ece722c:

- In the generated index.html file, "media" is listed first, but it
should be listed in alphabetical order, not first.

- The generated files are (hidden) in .tmpmedia/

- The link from the top-level index.html file to "media" is to
media/index.html, but the file is actually in .tmpmedia/media/index.html

- Please build docs with and without using "O=builddir" and test that.

- Would it be possible for media to have its own Makefile instead of
  merging into this one?

Due to the way cleandocs target works, I had to rename the media DocBook
to media_api, otherwise cleandocs would remove the /media directory.

4302fbc8ec panic: panic=-1 for immediate reboot
When a kernel BUG or oops occurs, ChromeOS intends to panic and
immediately reboot, with stacktrace and other messages preserved in RAM
across reboot.

But the longer we delay, the more likely the user is to poweroff and
lose the info.

panic_timeout (seconds before rebooting) is set by panic= boot option or
sysctl or /proc/sys/kernel/panic; but 0 means wait forever, so at
present we have to delay at least 1 second.

Let a negative number mean reboot immediately (with the small cosmetic
benefit of suppressing that newline-less "Rebooting in %d seconds.."
message).

b34a6b1da3 ipc: introduce shm_rmid_forced sysctl
Add support for the shm_rmid_forced sysctl. If set to 1, all shared
memory objects in current ipc namespace will be automatically forced to
use IPC_RMID.

The POSIX way of handling shmem allows one to create shm objects and
call shmdt(), leaving shm object associated with no process, thus
consuming memory not counted via rlimits.

With shm_rmid_forced=1 the shared memory object is counted at least for
one process, so OOM killer may effectively kill the fat process holding
the shared memory.

It obviously breaks POSIX - some programs relying on the feature would
stop working. So set shm_rmid_forced=1 only if you're sure nobody uses
"orphaned" memory. Use shm_rmid_forced=0 by default for compatability
reasons.

The feature was previously impemented in -ow as a configure option.

82f9d486e5 memcg: add memory.vmscan_stat
The commit log of 0ae5e89c60 ("memcg: count the soft_limit reclaim
in...") says it adds scanning stats to memory.stat file. But it doesn't
because we considered we needed to make a concensus for such new APIs.

This patch is a trial to add memory.scan_stat. This shows
  - the number of scanned pages(total, anon, file)
  - the number of rotated pages(total, anon, file)
  - the number of freed pages(total, anon, file)
  - the number of elaplsed time (including sleep/pause time)

  for both of direct/soft reclaim.

The biggest difference with oringinal Ying's one is that this file
can be reset by some write, as

  # echo 0 ...../memory.scan_stat

Example of output is here. This is a result after make -j 6 kernel
under 300M limit.

total_xxxx is for hierarchy management.

This will be useful for further memcg developments and need to be
developped before we do some complicated rework on LRU/softlimit
management.

This patch adds a new struct memcg_scanrecord into scan_control struct.
sc->nr_scanned at el is not designed for exporting information. For
example, nr_scanned is reset frequentrly and incremented +2 at scanning
mapped pages.

To avoid complexity, I added a new param in scan_control which is for
exporting scanning score.
