Linux-2.6.12-rc2 Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!

minimal build fixes for uml (fallout from x86 merge) a) include/asm-um/arch can't just point to include/asm-$(SUBARCH) now b) arch/{i386,x86_64}/crypto are merged now c) subarch-obj needed changes d) cpufeature_64.h should pull "cpufeature_32.h", not <asm/cpufeature_32.h> since it can be included from asm-um/cpufeature.h e) in case of uml-i386 we need CONFIG_X86_32 for make and gcc, but not for Kconfig f) sysctl.c shouldn't do vdso_enabled for uml-i386 (actually, that one should be registered from corresponding arch/*/kernel/*, with ifdef going away; that's a separate patch, though). With that and with Stephen's patch ("[PATCH net-2.6] uml: hard_header fix") we have uml allmodconfig building both on i386 and amd64. [PATCH] uml: revert wrong patch Andi Kleen pointed out that -mcmodel=kernel does not make sense for userspace code and would stop everything from working, and pointed out the correct fix for the original bug (not easy to do for me). [PATCH] uml: use -mcmodel=kernel for x86_64 We have never used this flag and recently one user experienced a complaining warning about this (there was a symbol in the positive half of the address space IIRC). So fix it. kbuild: enable 'make CFLAGS=...' to add additional options to CC The variable CFLAGS is a wellknown variable and the usage by kbuild may result in unexpected behaviour. On top of that several people over time has asked for a way to pass in additional flags to gcc. This patch replace use of CFLAGS with KBUILD_CFLAGS all over the tree and enabling one to use: make CFLAGS=... to specify additional gcc commandline options. One usecase is when trying to find gcc bugs but other use cases has been requested too. Patch was tested on following architectures: alpha, arm, i386, x86_64, mips, sparc, sparc64, ia64, m68k Test was simple to do a defconfig build, apply the patch and check that nothing got rebuild. [PATCH] uml: fix biarch gcc build on x86_64 I run an x86_64 kernel with i386 userspace (Ubuntu Dapper) and decided to try out UML today. I found that UML wasn't quite aware of biarch compilers (which Ubuntu i386 ships). A fix similar to what was done for x86_64 should probably be committed (see http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-kernel&m=113425940204010&w=2). Without the FLAGS changes, the build will fail at a number of places and without the LINK change, the final link will fail. [PATCH] uml: fix dynamic linking on some 64-bit distros With Paolo 'Blaisorblade' Giarrusso <blaisorblade@yahoo.it> The current UML build assumes that on x86-64 systems, /lib is a symlink to /lib64, but in some distributions (like PLD and CentOS) they are separate directories, so the 64 bit library loader isn't found. This patch inserts /lib64 at the start of the rpath on x86-64 UML builds. [UML] fix gcc ICEs and unresolved externs There are various constraints on the use of unit-at-a-time: - i386 uses no-unit-at-a-time for pre-4.0 (not 4.3) - x86_64 uses unit-at-a-time always Uli reported a crash on x86_64 with gcc 4.1.2 with unit-at-a-time, resulting in commit c0a18111e571138747a98af18b3a2124df56a0d1 Ingo reported a gcc internal error with gcc 4.3 with no-unit-at-a-timem, resulting in 22eecde2f9034764a3fd095eecfa3adfb8ec9a98 Benny Halevy is seeing extern inlines not resolved with gcc 4.3 with no-unit-at-a-time This patch reintroduces unit-at-a-time for gcc >= 4.0, bringing back the possibility of Uli's crash. If that happens, we'll debug it. I started seeing both the internal compiler errors and unresolved inlines on Fedora 9. This patch fixes both problems, without so far reintroducing the crash reported by Uli.
